Also, permission slips for the next two trips are due, see below.

KLONDIKE

15 scouts braved the cold to participate in the Chanonee Klondike competition at Cantigny this past Saturday. The boys did outstanding and had a blast. We will find out tomorrow night at Roundtable what place we finished. Thanks to the Beth Piper for driving, and Kevin Motz for helping during the event.

SKI TRIP ‹- Bring cots if you have them

Looks as if we will have outstanding weather for our annual ski trip, not too cold, and so warm that it gets wet and sloppy. We are filled to capacity, have only 32 bunks, so if you have a cot, please bring it. Eight campers will need to sleep on cots.

We will meet at 5:45pm and try to leave promptly at 6:00 p.m. from the Glen Ellyn Library parking lot. It is a long ride, so please eat dinner before leaving. We will snack when we get there.

FRIENDS OF SCOUTING

If you've turned in your FOS card, thank you. If not, please do soon, we'd like to complete this for the year and turn into council. Thanks.

SCOUT and OWASIPPE PACKETS

At last night's meeting, we handed out information for the scout year (Scout Packets) and for Owasippe Summer Camp. Due to some last minute issues, we could not bind them in time for the meeting and the boys collated their own. If your scout hasn't given it to you, please request it from him, as it has all the information for the year, including permission and waiver forms.

Also, for any fathers interested in going to Owasippe, either for a visit, or to camp with us for the week or a portion of it, we handed out adult packets last night. They will be available next meeting as well.

Any scout who did not receive these materials last night, can also pick them up at the next couple troop meetings.

Thanks. Any questions, please let me know.

February 1st, 2008 Update

Troop 41 Parents and scouts:

Some quick updates:

JUNIOR LEADER TRAINING CANCELLED

A couple of the more keen-eyed scouts (Philip and Frank) noticed that the recent calendar listed a Junior Leader Training session for tomorrow morning. This training was never communicated to the scouts and the listing is in error. THERE IS NO TRAINING TOMORROW, FEB. 2ND.

JUNIOR LEADER MEETING TIME CHANGE

Due to an 8th grade Open House at Hadley Jr. High, we are moving the time of our Junior Leader meeting back one half hour to 8:00pm. The meeting will be from 8 to 9pm.

KLONDIKE UPDATE

The Klondike location has changed from Camp Big Timber in Elgin to Cantigny in Winfield. The times have also changed. We will leave from the Glen Ellyn Library parking lot at 8am and return around 4pm. Events include Tug of War, Fire building, Orienteering, Knots and a sled race. Scouts going, do a little review prior to going, remember, this is a competition. More information will be communicated to those attending.

FRIENDS OF SCOUTING

Three Fires Council have begun the Annual Friends of Scouting Campaign, your scout should have received an envelope with a pledge card within at the last Troop Meeting. If he didn't get it to you, it might still be in his daypack or what we refer to as their time capsule. Please fill out your cards and return them as soon as possible, it is very important for us to collect cards from everyone. Thank you.

EMAIL LIST

If you would like your email address removed, or another added, please let me know, and I will be happy to do that.

Thanks for your help and support, it will be a great year of adventure.

Best,

Bradley Evans

Troop 41 Parents and scouts:

We have a great year planned!!!!

At our Laser-Tag event two weeks ago, the boys did an outstanding job of planning the upcoming scout year. Much like the Democratic Presidential race, it is all about "Change". New places, new things to do. Attached is a pdf of the "official" calendar. Some of the dates have changed from the Preliminary Calendar you received, so please review carefully.

VISIT OUR NEW WEB SITE

We now have a functioning Web site. It can be found at: www.troop41glenellyn.org

We hope to develop this into a resource that will be useful to you. It has an updated calendar for now, with forms and additional features to come soon. As a boy-led Troop, we have given our Scribe, Peter, the task of working with the Junior Leadership Team to develop the site into want they would like to see. I am confident they will come up with great ideas and make this into a site we will all be proud of.

NEW SCOUTS

We have had a nice group of young men and their families that have chosen Troop 41 to continue their scout career. As of today, we have 14 new boys.

If you see new faces, introduce yourself and help welcome these boys and their families into our Troop. We are thrilled to have them.

SKI TRIP FILLED

Our Ski Trip has filled up, as we can accommodate up to 40 people in the cabin. If you are still interested and have not turned in a form, let me know and we will put you on a waiting list.

SCOUT PACKETS

At our next Troop Meeting on February 12th, we will be handing out the Scout Packets for the year that will contain our Troop information and forms, including the information on summer camp.

EMAIL LIST

If you would like your email address removed, or another added, please let me know, and I will be happy to do that.

Thanks for your help and support, it will be a great year of adventure.

Happy New Year!

2007 was a great year and we are looking forward to the 2008 Scout year. The scouts will be meeting soon to outline their year of outings and activities, and as soon as they are finished, we will have a 2008 calendar to you (see below for upcoming dates).

More information to come at next week’s Troop Meeting regarding outings, Merit badges being offered, OA and Troop elections, etc. See you there.

Best regards,

Mr. Brad Evans, Scoutmaster

NEW DATE FOR LAZER-X PLANNING EVENT – January 19th

The schedule from last year had us going to Laser-X on January 12th. We have changed that and the new date is January 19th.

POPCORN/WREATH SALES

Remember to "hang on to" your lists of who you sold popcorn and wreaths to. Going down the list next year is easier than knocking on doors again!
